La Tierra Co-op roasts in small batches to give all of our roasts a specific taste. This gives you the perfect quality and consistency in every cup of coffee.
The custom roast gives us better control of the temperature used for each of our coffees and gives the time needed for the aromas to come out, contrary to commercial roasting.

Café Atitlán

Sololá, Guatemala - Dark Roast
This coffee is grown on a volcano, at very high altitudes of 1700 meters and is roasted dark. The taste is very complex, with various fruity notes, medium body and medium acidity. Café Atitlán comes from coffee producers that are part of the CCDA (Comité Campesino del Altiplano), an indigenous movement in the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala. This coffee is certified “Organic” with MayaCert and certified “Fair Trade” by the FLO. The importer, BC CASA, has always paid far above Fair Trade/Organic standards for the green beans. Started in 1982, this coop has achieved important changes in their members’ communities, providing support with land, credit, educational scholarships and various
trainings.

Café La Reina Nichim

Chiapas, México - Medium Roast
This coffee is particularly aromatic and flavourful in a medium roast. It is cultivated in the mountains of Chalchihuitán, Chenalhó and Pantelhó, in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, by three indigenous coops.
The Cooperativa Indigena Tzotzil de Chalchihuitán, founded in 2003, exported coffee for the first time in 2005, and is working to develop a sustainable and democratic model for their community. La Tierra Co-op accompanies them, with the help of other producers from Chiapas, to achieve this.
Maya Vinic, founded in 1999, first exported coffee in 2001 and is certified "Fair Trade" by FLO and "Organic" by Certimex. They are now using their expertise and succeess to help other producers organize. Yachil, based in Oventic, is a Zapatista cooperative. Zapatismo is an indigenous movement that promotes local autonomy, equality for indigenous women, and a profound grassroots democracy in the economic and political spheres.

Caranavi, Bolivia - Dark Roast
This coffee, roasted dark, it is spicy, with hints of chocolate. The cooperatives that produce it are made up of indigenous Aymara peasants, who have recently obtained high-altitude land and begun cultivating coffee in a coop framework. Within the last few years, the high quality of their coffee has quickly put the Yungas region on the map for coffee lovers.

Santa Marta, Colombia - Medium Dark
”We, the Arhuaco indigenous people, live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, heart of the universe, where, as older brothers, we carry out our spiritual work of protecting nature. We cultivate the Tiwun coffee, which in our language means ‘origin’, with completely organic methods, respecting the environment and without introducing the types of technologies that make us dependence or weaken us culturelly”- Confederacion Indigena Tayrona.
The processing and export of this coffee directly by the indigenous co-op, guarantees that the economic benefits of the project go directly to the community. Café Tiwun is certified ‘organic’ by ECOCERT.
